The future stars of Canadian soccer - the talented young duo of Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David

Whilst they may play in different positions and in different leagues, this duo certainly shares something in common. They both have tremendous potential. The pair have been monitored for years but have taken this year by storm and have set the world alight with their performances.

Alphonso Davies

I'd be incredibly surprised if you haven't heard of this man by now. The 19 year old moved to Munich from the Vancouver Whitecaps last year for a fee of around 20 million euros. Since then his value has tripled to around 60 million euros according to transfermarkt. Originally a winger, Bayern have undoubtedly converted him into the best left-back in the Bundesliga, utilising his dribbling and pace and turning him into an unstoppable force in his breakthrough season for the Bavarians. He was clocked at an immensely impressive 22.69 mph this season, smashing the Bundesliga sprint record.

Named as Bundesliga Rookie of the Year, Davies has scored 4 and assisted 5 in 38 games this season, helping Bayern to secure an 8th successive league title and the DFB Pokal. A treble could be on the cards for Davies and Bayern, the Canadian will be crucial to Hansi Flick's plans for European glory in the upcoming crunch match against Chelsea in the knockout stages.

He has also gained national recognition whilst playing for the Canadian men's international team, becoming the youngest player to ever feature and score for them at the age of just 16!

Jonathan David

This was Jonathan's second year in Belgium, following a move from Ottawa Nationals to KAA Gent in 2018. A prolific young striker, he scored 18 and assisted 7 in the Belgian Pro League, finishing as joint top scorer and guiding Gent to second in the division, their best result since the 2015/16 season. He's a rapid player with an unexpectedly solid composure for his tender age. Also, sometimes it's hard to distinguish what his weak foot is because he doesn't really have one, a deadly finisher on both feet!

On top of all this, David has scored 11 senior international goals in 12 games for Canada! He was the top scorer at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup (the North American version of the Euros), scoring 6 and beating players like Raul Jimenez and Christian Pulisic to the prize despite Canada getting knocked out in the quarter finals. It's hard to believe he's only 20...

Valued at around 25 million euros, David has been tipped for a move to Leeds this summer, following their promotion to the Prem and his goalscoring exploits. He could be key to helping them secure safety from relegation next year.
